No, Lions Club are under the umbrella of Lions Club International and are not part of any other community entities such as the Legion or the Optimists or the Rotary Club or Masons.  Lions Clubs are a separate entity from other community groups.

How long can an individual be a member of a Lions Club?

An individual can be a member of the Uxbridge Lions Club for as long as they maintain their membership and honour the Lions Club commitment to the community.  Lions Clubs can offer a “Life Membership” for individuals who have been a member for 20 years or longer or if the combination of the individual’s age and number of years’ service total 80.

What services does the Uxbridge Lions Club provide?

Why should an individual be a Lions Club member?

Being a Lions Club member provides the opportunity to make a positive impact on the community and ultimately worldwide.  When an individual is a Lion they can use their established skills and talents to work with other members in the Club.  Being a Lions Club member also offers the opportunity for personal development, leadership development and community engagement.  It gives an individual a sense of belonging and knowing that they are making a difference in the lives of others in their community.

Are Dog Guides part of Lions Clubs?

Yes, Lions Clubs across Canada established the Lions Foundation of Dog Guides in Canada to provide Dog Guides for people with disabilities.  Lions Clubs play a vital role in supporting the Lions Foundation of Dog Guides by fundraising, promotion and contributing to its annual revenue.  Every year Lions Clubs facilitate the Walk for Dog Guides.

What would happen if there was no Lions Club in Uxbridge?

Reduced community support:

The Lions Club is known for its fundraising efforts, which directly benefit local organizations and individuals. Without the club, there would be fewer resources available for initiatives like sports teams, community events, and local charities.

Loss of fundraising events:

The Lions Club often organizes events like breakfasts, and other fundraisers to support their activities. These events not only raise money but also bring the community together.

Fewer opportunities for service:

Lions Clubs International focuses on service, including vision and hearing programs, youth programs, and disaster relief. The absence of the Uxbridge Lions Club would mean fewer opportunities for these types of services in the community.

Impact on community building:

Lions Clubs play a role in fostering a sense of community and belonging. Their social activities and involvement in local events contribute to a more vibrant and connected community.

Possible strain on other organizations:

If the Lions Club is no longer active, other organizations in Uxbridge might need to fill the gap in service provision, potentially leading to increased pressure on their resources and volunteer base.

Ultimately, the absence of the Lions Club would likely result in a less vibrant, less supported, and less connected community in Uxbridge.

How many members does the Uxbridge Lions Club have?

There are currently 10 members in the Uxbridge Lions Club, however, 2 of our members have left because they have other commitments or they left for health reasons.  Many Lions Clubs have up to 20 members or more.  The more members a Lions Club has, the better because the Club can do more services and fundraising in the community.

Will the Uxbridge Lions Club always be a community service group in Uxbridge?

Yes, but ultimately, it depends on membership which is a major factor in any Lions Club.  New members can continue the services, fundraising events, and the work the Uxbridge Lions Club currently does, and initiate new events.  As members get older, they will want to leave or they will die off and if there are no new members, the Club will eventually disband.  This means closures such as the following will have an impact on the community:

  • the Lions Food Booth will close or it may be taken over by another community group or the Township,

  • there will no annual Art in the Park event,

  • there will no a Walk for Dog Guides,

  • community charities and non-profit organizations will no longer receive support from the Uxbridge Lions Club

No one wants to see our Lions Club close down and disband.  If you are thinking about joining and/or are interested or know someone who would be interested, please get in touch with us. As well, we always welcome volunteers and appreciate the work that they do very much.

Our club is very busy, especially from April to December.  Currently we have 9 members but having as many people as we can to join our club would be very beneficial.  Expanding our Club with new dedicated members would allow us to ensure our events and donations to many non-profit and charity organizations will continue to benefit the community.
