ABOUT OUR CLUB

The Community Lions Club was chartered on Month Day, Year and is part of the world-wide Lions Clubs International.

The Community Lions Club just celebrated 50 years of service in our community in 2018.  Our club is made up of dedicated men and women who meet regularly to enjoy fellowship and spend their free time to work on projects help members of our community, our region, our province, our country and around the world.  Our club welcomes both men and women to join.  Being a member of our club is a great opportunity for you to make a difference in our community.

Our projects are supported through our fundraising events such as the Christmas Bazaar, Christmas turkey dinner, spring Victorian Tea, road tolls, and more.  Each time we do a fundraising event, these funds are given to citizens or organizations to support their activities and to help those with special needs and others who may be less fortunate than we are.

ABOUT LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL

Lions Clubs International is the largest service organization in the world with an excess of 1.5 million members. Lions Clubs International, founded in 1917, is the world’s largest and most effective community service organization, with more than 1.4 million members.

This year, Lions Clubs International is celebrating their centennial.  Lions around the world have been changing lives for 100 years through humanitarian service. Our Centennial Celebration is a time to mark this milestone, celebrate our legacy and look forward to the next century of service. The Centennial Celebration runs through June 2018 and offers all Lions opportunities to celebrate and serve.

Our club is one of more than 46,000 Lions Clubs in approximately 192 countries and areas. Regardless of what language they speak, religion they practice or politics they support, all Lions are dedicated to seeking out and helping those in need.

The objective of Lionism is to serve the community - neighbour helping neighbour. It did not take long before this simple, yet broad ideal spread throughout the world.

Much of the focus of Lions Clubs International work as a service club organization is to raise money for worthy causes. All funds raised by Lions Clubs from the general public are used for charitable purposes, and administrative costs are kept strictly separate and paid for by members. Some of the money raised for a club’s charity account goes toward projects that benefit the local community of an individual club.

In 1938, a Southern Ontario community, located in the north part of the City of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, the Claremont Lions Club became a part of Lions Clubs International. We, too, focus our fundraising efforts, service activities and resulting contributions benefit our community directly. Our contributions to services that are regional, provincial, national and international benefits so many more.

Lions are not just a club for men. Today’s Lions are women and men dedicated to making our community a better place to live. We are your friends and neighbours.
