Dog Guides

When you participate in the Uxbridge Lions Pet Valu Dog Guides Walk, you are helping people through the following Dog Guide Programs:
Canine Vision for people who are blind or visually impaired
Hearing for people who are deaf or hard of hearing
Autism Assistance for children who have autism spectrum disorder
Service for people who have a physical or medical disability
Seizure Response for people who have epilepsy
Diabetic Alert for people who have diabetes with hypoglycemic unawareness
Facility Support for professional agencies assisting individuals in traumatic situations
Depending on the program, Dog Guides are trained to perform a set of basic skills depending on the needs of all handlers and the specific needs of their future handler, such as for someone who is visually impaired or hearing impaired or for diabetic alert.
The videos below show us how Dog Guides help people with medical and physical disabilities.
We Raise Funds For the
Lions Foundation of Dog Guides in two ways:
-
Through our silent auction at our Art in the Park event in mid August
-
Through your participation in our Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides and our donations
We welcomed guides and their dogs, family and friends to support the Lions Foundation of Dog Guides Program and join Team Uxbridge & District Lions by joining our team at www.walkfordogguides.com.
Participants can donate to the Uxbridge Lions Walk for Dog Guides through this link: Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides : Sponsor.
Uxbridge Lions Club has been a devoted advocate to Dog Guides for many years and we look forward to the Walk for Dog Guides every year.
Our Past President, Bob Armitage, recently commented, “Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides remains my personal favourite cause. I take every opportunity in conversations and through Facebook to share this wonderful program and its benefits to our community of Uxbridge."
Consider fostering puppies in training, take each one for a year, you may find s it is difficult to give the dog up after a year, but the difference the dog makes in the life of the recipient makes it all worthwhile. Perhaps you can foster a puppy too; just check it out!”
